Ispat to increase capacity

Ispat Industries is planning to increase the capacity of the steel plant at Dolvi in Maharashtra.

The company presently runs a 3 million tonne per annum hot rolled coils plant, a 1.6 million tonne per annum sponge iron (DRI) plant, a 2 million tonne blast furnace and a a mechanised multi-functional jetty at Dolvi. The Company recently commissioned a new 2.24 million tonnes per annum sinter plant, a 1260 tonnes per day oxygen and a new electric arc furnace .

The new project involves enhancing the production capacity 5 million tonne a year with an investment of Rs 50 billion. The expansion programme also includes a a captive power plant of over 100 mw and ramping up of the existing port facilities.

As of November 2006, the company was expecting to sign an MoU with state government of Maharashtra to carry on the expansion programme.

In addition to this, the Ispat is also in the process of setting up a 3 mt pellet plant in Vizag with an investment of Rs.9 billion.
